To Our Loyal Readers,

Our Editor in Chief, Caroline Faifman, has been impacted by recent hurricane in the South of Florida. Please send her good wishes. Our October issue is late, but we hope to be back on track for November.

The COR recently met in Denver, Colorado and we have some great things to share with you about the upcoming 2023 conference.

Upcoming TAP Talk

The Theory, Research, and Teaching Section (TRT) encourages the theoretical development of Alfred Adler's Individual Psychology through scholarly research and the teaching of this orientation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We provide symposiums and presentations, facilitate meetings at our annual convention, and support one another as we extend the scientific and academic frontier of Individual Psychology. Members of the TRT Section join together, regardless of focus or application, and strive to keep Individual Psychology relevant and applicable.

Section Reps: Daniel Williamson and Jennifer Williamson

Thank you, Katie!

Join us as we say goodbye to our NASAP Administrator, Katie Hilley

Thank her for her years of service to NASAP. Katie has made the decision to focus on her family with her partner, Jordan, and her two adorable little boys, Leland who is 2 and Myles who is almost 8 months. Katie helped stabilize NASAP with her energy, time, and willingness to contribute over the last 3 years. She joined the team in 2019 and we will miss her.

Thank you, Katie!

2023 Conference Proposals

Were you forgetful?

Did you bank on us extending the deadline?

Did you just hear about it?

Either way you are in luck!

NASAP would like you to invite you to contribute your input & talents to our 71st Annual Conference, so much so that we extended our deadline:

Friday & Saturday Main Day Presentations

We also need people to submit proposals for the main part of the conference held Friday and Saturday. These can vary in length from 60, 75, or 90-minute sessions with the longer timeslot reserved for demonstrations. Those great ideas you’ve been sitting on for years can finally be shared with your fellow Adlerians. The proposal form can be found on the Conference page of the website (or click here).

Proposals are now Due October 30th!

Pre-Conference Self-Care

Do you practice self-care or community-care from an Adlerian viewpoint? Consider submitting a proposal for the Thursday pre-conference Day of Self Care and Community Care. We need your ideas and willingness to share them with fellow conference attendees. These workshops will incorporate experiential activities that provide attendees with first-hand knowledge for how to do the activities in their workplace settings and/or for personal use as well as CE credits. The proposal form can be found on the Conference page of the website (or click here).

Post-Conference Half-Day

Sunday at conference will be the usual post-conference sessions which will be half-day workshops starting at 8:30 AM and ending at 11:45 AM. This is a great time to offer another opportunity for hands-on learning and demonstrations. Everyone who is a practitioner needs CEs for ethics trainings, so consider submitting a proposal on some ethics-related topic and link it to Adlerian theory. Maybe you’ve got some ideas about how private logic affects people’s abilities to follow ethical guidelines. Perhaps you can demonstrate through early recollections how our ethical understanding comes into existence. These are just some ideas to get you thinking. We look forward to reading your proposals. The proposal form can be found on the Conference page of the website (or click here).

COR Meeting in Colorado

The Council of Representatives (COR) of NASAP met in Denver (+Zoom) on October 14th & 15th.

It was a productive two days of generating ideas and creating action steps that will enhance member benefits and continue to move NASAP forward in this ever-changing world.

Thank you to all COR members who gave their time and energy to the meeting!

Grant Opportunity

Announcing the First Alfred Adler Institute of New York Grants For Teaching Adlerian Psychology

The Alfred Adler Institute of New York is pleased to announce that it has expanded its mission to include issuing grants to Adlerian organizations for the purpose of teaching Adlerian psychology or its specific applications. Awards of up to $5,000 will be awarded to institutes and other nonprofit Adlerian organizations both in the U.S. and internationally. The grants will be awarded on the basis of the originality and worthiness of the project.

According to Ellen Mendel, the President of AAI-NY, "We believe deeply in Adlerian psychology and philosophy, and want to expand our educational mission by helping to ensure that as many people as possible discover Adler's teachings."

"We are especially interested in reaching people who ordinarily might not be exposed to Adlerian techniques," Mendel said, "so for example, grants might be awarded for teaching Adlerian parenting techniques to families.”

To be clear, grants can only be awarded to not-for-profit corporations, or for non-U.S.-based organizations, the equivalent status for that nation.

The deadline for returning the Application forms to the Institute is December 15, 2022. Grants will be awarded in the early part of 2023.

To obtain a copy of the grant application form, download it here.

IAIP Virtual Event

Free Registration

The International Association of Individual Psychology (IAIP) is an affiliate of NASAP and will be holding a virtual event on November 19, 2022. This event offers a chance to "Meet the Sections" with several sessions on a variety of topics.

The conference is free but registration is required so we can plan breakout sessions and social time accordingly. We are very excited to offer you several presentation formats within the conference: a lecture, an interview, breakout sessions with case discussions and debates, and a whole group social time to conclude the conference. We discussed the time of the conference extensively at the IAIP Board meeting, and we acknowledge that, with 14-16 hours spread between some of our organizations' locations, the time will not be perfect for everyone. We still hope that you will attend - with tea, coffee,  good old Gemeinschaftsgefühl, and whatever else might keep you energized.

Time for the event - 14:00 PM to 18:00 PM Vienna time. Please check your own local time to find the accurate start time for your location.

For the interview part of Wilfried Datler's presentation, please consider submitting questions ahead of time - just send your questions to Marina Bluvshtein, and we will bring your questions to Wilfried Datler.

For all information about IAIP visit the main website, for more information on this event, visit the conference page, and to register for the event, click here.
